Location: Mornington Peninsula
We were asked by Bob Laing and Wayne Klintworth of Bass and Flinders Distillery to design a new cellar door within their existing production area and barrel store, which were all contained within a large agricultural shed. The design needed to cater for two main modes of usage; on the weekends the space functions as a cellar door and a venue for ‘Gin Masterclasses’, and during the week it forms the utilitarian and flexible backdrop required for the production of fine spirits. With the tight budget in mind, the material palette was kept neutral and simple. Walls are painted black to recede into the background, economical white and black subway tiles provide interest to the bar, the existing exposed concrete slab is left as is. The real feature comes from the copper stills, aged oak barrels and glistening bottles of gin, vodka and ‘Orche’ spirits produced by Bob and Wayne.
