Preston Residence by Project 12 Architecture

This project came about when good friends Glenn Hester (Glenn Hester Photography) and Lauren Egan (Lauren Egan Design) approached us to design an extension for their home in Preston. The initial brief was for something larger and significant remodelling of the existing home. After deep consideration from Glenn and Lauren as to how big they really wanted their mortgage and a career shift for Lauren, the final product represents a more modest, cost effective yet highly efficient design. The process was a true collaboration, with Glenn taking on the role of owner/builder, and Lauren as interior decorator.

The rooms of the existing Californian Bungalow were renovated and re-used, with bedrooms, family bathroom, sitting room and kitchen remaining in place. The brief still called for a study, rumpus room, laundry/storage and master suite with WIR and ensuite.

A simple, almost cube formed addition sits to the east of the existing house accommodating the additional programme. Robust, cost-effective materials have been selected, including silver-top ash cladding, aluminium windows and custom-orb cladding. Glazing is carefully considered, to maximise northern-light, connections to the garden and frame views out, while minimising unwanted views to neighbours. The master-suite sits to the first floor and acts as a true retreat for Glenn and Lauren. A large glass sliding door opens onto a Juliet balcony and the tree-tops and garden below.

‘We love the collaborative and thoughtful process Aimee and Louis have created at Project 12. Working together on our Preston home, we had the upmost confidence in all of their proposals which culminated in a high quality, functional and beautiful home. We would (and have) recommend Project 12 to friends and family without hesitation.’
