Richmond Residence by Project 12 Architecture

Tucked behind the original façade of a Victorian workers cottage, this Richmond home has been thoughtfully reimagined to create a calm and welcoming retreat for clients Julia, Huy and their much-loved dog, Penny.

While the renovation preserves the home’s historic charm, the reconfigured layout has been carefully tailored to suit the rhythms of everyday life. A place to work. A place to relax. A place to entertain.

The plan includes a generous main bedroom with ensuite, guest bedroom, bathroom and powder room. At the rear, a light-filled extension accommodates the kitchen – complete with a cosy seating nook – alongside dining, living and study areas, all opening onto a sun-drenched northern courtyard. A raked ceiling with skylights bathes the interior in soft natural light, while timber shutters offer control over the summer sun. A separate entry leads to a mudroom and laundry, keeping the clutter of daily life neatly contained.

A palette of warm, natural materials – travertine flooring, timber joinery, textured walls and stone – brings a quiet elegance to the home. The result is a space that feels both peaceful and personal – a place of refuge, connection and everyday comfort.

The project is due for completion in October 2025.
